Group work- Give very clear and concise instructions. - Explain rationale of the group activity.. - Use words that they will understand.- You pick the groups. No more than 4 to a group. - Have clear demarcations of how much time given, when to start and when to stop. - When doing group work, go around and look at what students are doing. Then give the class feedback/synthesize on whatever they've done. Have a mini discussion. (Like Michael Williams) Do not assume that students know how to work in groups. They may not have learnt the social skills to do with compromise, mediation, turn-taking, sharing, contributing and teaching. You might need to mediate conflict that happens. Mixed groups are better. Both groups will learn from each other. |
